WHARF AT NGATEA

QUESTION OF LICENSE LETTER TO DEPARTMENT PLAINS COUNCIL ADVISED “ With reference to your letter of May 21 applying for permission to retain the use of the company owned wharf and wharf shed, at Ngatea, I have to inform you that I am unable to trace in this department’s records, any wharf owned by your company at Ngatea,” read a letter from the Marine Department, Wellington, to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, Hamilton, a copy of which was before the June meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. The letter continued: —

“ I presume you are not referring to the wharf at Ngatea, the licence to use which was granted to the Hauraki Plains County Council on February 3, 1937. If that is the case, then your application should in the first place, be referred to that body. If your company owns a wharf other than that wharf, then it is an illegal structure as the plans have not been submitted to this department for approval by His Excellency the Governor-General in Council.”

The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt: That is rather a surprise. Cr. A. H. Sutton: They have been using the wharf for a long time.
