The provision of an extra convenience at the Whitianga Hotel, suggested at the last meeting, had not yet been carried out, it was reported. Mr Dodd said there had been difficulty at the time in getting materials, and the recommendation then had not been insisted on. The position now was as bad as it was then—a permit could not be secured.
Police reports mentioned that numerous renovations were required for the Royal Hotel, Mercer, and the case of this hotel was adjourned till the September meeting of the committee to see that the work was carried out. A complaint by a traveller about not being able to get a meal at this hotel was referred to the police for inquiry and a report. Rebuilding at Kaiaua Xhe position of the rebuilding of the Bay View Hotel, Kaiaua, was discussed, it being explained that the owner was anxious to rebuild but could no> secure a permit. Mr Rogers said »t was considered by the old Hauraki Committee that the store and post office should not be part of the hotel, as they were previously. They should be separate, but were not shown thus
in the last plan he had seen, and he asked what the provision was in the new plan. On the suggestion of the chairman, Mr Gilchrist, who appeared for applicant, will submit a new plan to the next meeting.
