HARRIS CUP

PRESENTED TO WAITAKARURU ATTRACTIVE . FLOWER DISPLAY On Monday, November 25, Mrs Dalgety presented the Harris Cup to the Waitakaruru Institute. At a social evening, the- Waitakaruru president, Mrs F. Pinchess, accepted the cup on behalf of the Institute. The Harris Challenge Cup was preby Mr W. J. Harris for an annual competition, which is open to all branches of women’s organisations. The W46-47 competition was held in conjunction with the combined Presbyterian and Methodist flower show held at Ngatea on November 14. The collection of cut flowers was to be twelve distinct varieties, grown in open and were to be staged in twelve vases with own foliage.

Many women’s organisations entered for this class and the display of flowers was exceptional. The Waitakaruru Institute won first prize and it was for this that Mrs Dalgety presented the cup.

When accepting the cup Mrs Pinchess said she wished to thank and give credit to the Waitakaruru members who arranged their entry. The ladies mentioned were Mrs Hegh, Mrs J. Pacey, Mrs C. Hinton, Mrs S. Dick and Mrs F. Stretton.
