NATIONAL PARK

PART OF PENINSULA PLANS FOR COROMANDEL LETTER FROM ALPINE CLUB “ Certain Auckland organisations have been for some time of the opinion that it is most desirable that certain part or parts of the Coromandel Peninsula should be declared a National Park to be developed in accordance with the proposals of the Internal ■ Affairs Department for physical recreation. It is felt that such a step would be in the interests of the public as a whole as well as serving those who have special interests in the area, whether from a scientific or other point of view,” stated a letter from the Alpine Sports Club, Auckland, at the November meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. The letter added: “In this letter it is not proposed to set out the many arguments in favour of such a scheme. Many will doubtless already be known to you. It is felt, however, that as the matter will shortly be ventilated publically it is only right that your council should be appraised of what is contemplated as it may well be on account of the geographical relation of the proposed park to the area over which your council has jurisdiction that your council may feel that it has a special interest in the proposal.” The letter also advised that a meeting would be held in Auckland shortly and invited any councillor able to attend. The letter was received.
