AUCTION SALE HELD COUNCIL QUITS INTEREST BUILDINGS AT WHENUAKITE The Coromandel County Council quitted their interest in a number of Defence Force buildings, at Hot Water Beach, which they had bought from the War Assets Board, when these were sold by public auction at Whenuakite last week. For the buildings, their fittings and some other purchases, the council spent a sum of £l6OO at the auction last week. Seven of the nine buildings, less fittings, brought from buyers the sum of £3990. There was a big crowd present, over fifty cars. and trucks being in the parking spaces. Buyers and intending buyers came from the district and far afield—Auckland, Hamilton and elsewhere. To Replace Fire Loss The main building, the mess hall and quarters, (98ft. by 37ft.), was bidded for briskly and eventually was knocked down to the Mercury Bay Hall Trustees at £1260. Some time ago fire destroyed the Mercury Bay hall, and after considerable discussion on ways and means to replace it, the trustees decided to enter the auction market. Previously they had asked the Coromandel County Council to negotiate with them for the sale of uiliiiiniiiiiuliniiiiiiyiiiiiiiiiiiiiliiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiHniiiiiiniiiiiniiiiinniiiniiiiiiniiiiiitiiiniiiiiiiiniii

the mess rooms, but the council decided against this idea. To shift the building as it stands at present will involve the trustees in a further expenditure. Officers’ quarters (29ft. 4in. by 12ft. Sin.), were sent off at £3OO. The laundry and washing rooms (left wing 48ft. by 17ft., right wing 23ft. bin. by 13ft. 4in.), brought in £5OO. Two sleeping dormitories, each 40ft. by 25ft. Bin., realised £595 apiece. A power-house, 43ft. Sin. by 15ft. Sin, was sold for £290, and a radar building of two rooms and passage (47ft. by 14ft. 9in.) went under the hammer at £405. An oil store and garage were passed in. , The laundry and washing rooms were purchased by Mr Harsant, of Whitianga. The other purchases went to buyers from outside districts. The sale was conducted on behalf of the council by the Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company, Limited.
