WORKS COMMITTEE
REPORT TO COUNCIL IN PAEROA BOROUGH POSITION DURING FLOODS The chairman of the works committee reported as follows to the July meeting of the iPaeroa Borough Council: — (General Maintenance: Maintenance has received the usual attention during the past month. iStormwater Drainage: Due to the excessively heavy rain during the month, considerable attention was necessary to the stormwater system; Night of Floods On the night of June 2-5 it was necessary to operate the big pump at the septic tank. At 11 p.m. the motor became overheated. This meant a stoppage and the only alternative was to disconnect the motor which drives the crusher at the quarry and re-in-starl this motor at the tank. With the help of 'Mr A. L. Wrigley of the Power Board staff this was done and the pump was operated for one full night. Luckily the rain ceased and further running was unnecessary. It is suggested that another motor be procured and installed at the tank and the crusher motor be installed at the quarry. Paeroa Streets Streets: The metalling of .De Castro street has been completed. Koldseal patching has ’been done, in Aorangi road, (Ainslie road, Old Te Aroha road, Wharf street and Arney street. Fireplug Notices: Ail fireplug notice boards are being renovated and plug boxes painted. Eighteen new boards have been procured. Matters referred from council: As ■soon as the requisite metal can be crushed the stopbank road to J. R. Edwards’ will be given attention. It was decided that the matter of the interchange of motors be left to His Worship the Mayor and the town clerk to confer with the works committee.
