KITCHEN EVENING

HELD AT MARAMARUA MISS JEAN FREEBORN & FIANCE A kitchen evening was held in the Maramarua Hall on Thursday, July July I'l in honour of one of Maramarua’s most popular junior residents, Miss June Freeborn. There was a large crowd present and Warren’s orchestra provided excellent dance music. (During the evening Mr Pacey on behalf of the residents and those present, wished June and her fiance Mr Ron Findlay every success in the future and hoped they would be very hap'py during their married life. He also said what a lot June and Ron had done for the Sports Club, Golf Club and Football Clubs. He then asked them to accept a most useful table of gifts from those present. Mrs Jolley then on behalf of the ■Social Club wished June and Ron the best of luck and hoped that Monday would be a nice sunny day. She then handed June a glorious bouquet of pink and white stocks and an envelope of money. iOn behalf of Institute members Mrs Symes thanked June for all she had done and presented her with a lovely cup. saucer and plate. (Everyone then joined in singing “For 'They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr Findlay suitably replied and thanked all for the evening and gifts presented to them. (Dancing was continued until the early hours of the morning and “Old Lang 'Syne” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. PLEASANT TURIUA FUNCTION MTS'S C. HICKS' HONOURED A very pleasant evening was spent at the Turu aßuildings recently, with a kitchen gift evening for Miss 0. Hicks arid Mr H. McCrory, in view of their approaching marriage. Miss Hicks spent a very happy evening among her many friends. Dancing was held, a novelty waltz being won by Miss' Ooralie Hicks and Mr 'Stan Clark, and a Monte Carlo by Miss ’S. Painter and Mr N. Chinnery. Mr Clark made a capable master of ceremonies. The band went with a swing, with Mr Whitehead at the drums and Mrs Clark at the piano. M'iss N. Miller played an extra. ■ Mrs Clark sang “Because” and Mr Clark “Just a Prayer Alway.” A duet by Mr Clark and Miss Sear was much appreciated. Mr A. H. Sutton, on behalf of those presept, wished the guests l a happy future, and made them' a presentation. Mr McCrory (suitably replied and thanked those present. The function concluded with the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good (Fellows.” Among the guests are: Mesdames Mules, (Sutton (Kopuarahi), J. Miller, Hicks, Heasman, Davy-Martin, Roberts, Chinnery.
