HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY
By defeating Waitakaruru at Ngatea on Saturday Ngatea won the Dent Cup in the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union’s senior competition. The game provided considerable excitement, Waitakaruru, who dominated the early part of the game, gaining a lead early and holding same until after the interval.
In the second spell, however, Ngatea reversed the position and although Waitakaruru put up a keen fight the winners were able to hold them to run out the victors by an easy six points.

Glimpses of the Game
Ngatea opened the scoring early in the game, Silcock sending the backs away for Fisher to beat two men to send Jamieson over at the' corner. Hayward missed a difficult kick. Ngatea 3, Waitakaruru 0.
From a scrum -under Ngatea posts the attackers secured and the backs got away for Mohring to score wide out. Otter did no good with the kick. Ngatea 3, Waitakaruru 3.
A scrum was ordered near the Ngatea line, .Ngatea securing and kicking the ball bouncing back for McLennan to dive on it to score in a handy position. Otter had no trouble in gaining the major points. ' Waitakaruru 8, Ngatea 3.
Waitakaruru continued to force the pace and had Ngatea worried. The attackers were awarded a penalty right ’on the Ngatea line but Otter missed with the kick.
Half-time was called with the score Waitakaruru 8, Ngatea 3. Ngatea Set The Pace
After the interval Ngatea set the pace and pinned Waitakaruru in their own. twenty-five. Waitakaruru to hold Ngatea had to force down on several occasions. Hayward did no good with a 'penalty kick: Ngatea got away in a nice passing rush but Jamieson was grassed by .Stretton when a score looked certain.
Ngatea were awarded a penalty kick while attacking and Hayward with a beautiful kick from wide out pained three points. Waitakaruru 8, Ngatea 6. ' Once again Ngatea broke through and Hayward made a nice opening to send Hunt over by the posts. Hayward gained the major points. Ngatea 11, Waitakaruru 8. Ngatea were granted a penalty kick near the half-way line and Hayward with a beautiful kick put the ball out five yards from, the Waitakaruru line. Good Kick By Hayward Waitakaruru took a turn' at attack andd Ngatea were hard pressed. Waitakaruru were awarded a penalty in a handy position and Otter, instead of attempting a kick at goal, merely touched the ball with his toe to pick up and dive for the line. The movement was disallowed and a scrum was ordered. Waitakaruru continued to press and excitment ran high with the attackers right on the Ngatea goal line. Hayward from well out with a penalty kick gained three points for Ngatea with an excellent kick. Ngatea 14, Waitakaruru 8. Time, was called without further score. Mr P. Solomon was the referee.
