OPOUTERE COMMITTEE NEW BUS TIME-TABLE DISCUSSION BY THE PARENTS A meeting of the Opoutere School Committee was held, in the Tawa Tawa Hall, Mr W. Wareipo presiding.

'Considerable discussion centred round the s’chool bus time table. A number of parents felt that the new time table which required the children to leave home at a much earlier hour imposed hardships on both parents and children. ■

■ Mr Barton explained that the Opoutere and' Whangamata schools regulated their opening hours to suit the Inis service which catered for both schools. Tn the case of the Opoutere school a double trip was required. Previously the Opoutere school went in after the Whangamata, the second bus arriving sometimes as late as 9.45 a.m. As only four children were transported to Wh'angamata against Opoutere’s .25 he felt that the Opoutere run should be made first, but- in view of the double trip it was necessary to collect the first load at 7>30 a.m. 'Mr Barton while recognising an element of hardship for the children, said it was difficult to contemplate Other arrangements that would not Seriously interfere with the progress the school. School Uniform Suggested On the motion of Mrs Liddell it was decided to support the present arrangement especially as the Whangamata school was hoping to arrange a bus of its own in the near future. Mr Barton suggested that the parents give consideration to the adopting of special summer and winter school uniforms, which could gradually be adopted as the children’s school apparel required replacement. The lady members of the committee were asked to make recommendation to the next meeting.

Mrs Liddell suggested that an approach be made to the '..ealth department to see if the cistr t nurse could be given authority to ii. ect the children against boil infect n which was very pre. .lent in the school. The

meeting unanimously confirmed the suggestion. It was decided to write to the Education Board asking for a supply of sugar and cocoa to be granted to the school. Arrangements were also considered for a supply of soup during the winter months.

Quotes and designs for a suitable bookcase to house the John Graham Opoutere School 'War Memorial Library are to be submitted to the next meeting of the committee.

Airangements were completed for the end of term social evening.
