NOTICE OF MOTION

DECISION DEFERRED PLAINS WATER SUPPLY MAKING FURTHER CONNECTION Notion of motion to revoke the decision of the council not to grant any further service connections to persons outside the East Water Supply Special Rating area was moved by Or. W. H. Cheale at the M'ay meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. Cr. Cheale said) that when the motion was put through the council were waiting for the dry season to test the East Water Supply. Last year was definitely a drought year and there was no shortage of water. If a settler desperately needed water and it was available it should be granted. 'Cr. F. .Pinchess supported the resolution. lOr. J. W. Neate asked whether there would be sufficient water if the East supply was connected to Pipiroa. He thought those who had not come into the special water supply rating area should not be served until 'both the East and 'West supplies were linked up and all in the special rating area given all water they needed. Cr. J. F. Mayn supported Cr Cheale in view of the fact that water was running to waste in the East supplyiCr. A. H. Sutton opposed the motion. The supply was designed and

built for a special area and could not safely be extended and give service to those within the rating area. iCr. Neate moved that the whole matter be left over until a report w'as received from Mr E. F. Adams, consulting engineer. The chairman pointed out that there was no harm in revoking the resolution. It was not proposed to connect anybody at the moment. 'C’r. D. G. McMillan said he thought a survey should be made of the areas which might want to take water. One area could not be granted water and the other refused. The question affecting the whole matter was the limit of the supply at low ebb. He spoke of the wastage of water at the present contending that thousands of gallons were wasted each day. iCr. C. W. Schultz said most of the farmers in the East Water Supply could not cool their milk at night as a result they had been graded lower. If they had had ample water for cooling this lower grade would not have resulted. After further discussion it was decided to defer decision until a full report on water supplies was taken.
