PAEROA COMMITTEE MEETS " ~ I TRANSFER OF TEACHERS CLUBS TO BE ORGANISED ________ 1 The May meeting of the Paet<JB District High School Committee W&S held in the schoolroom on Monday. The chairman, Mr C. C. Webb, pre* sided over Messrs J. H. Walmsley, P. Williams, R. S. Nicol, B. A. Gwilliam, T. I. Jenkins, and R. J. W. Clark, Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. Gamble and S. H. Wheeler. The headmaster -Mr G. ML Ruscoe was also in attendance. Mr T. I. Jenkins was appointed secretary to the committee in place of Mr R. J. W. Clark who had resigned. Painting Contract Advice was received from the board * that the tender of Mr K. D. Attwood, of Auckland, had been accepted for the painting of the inside of the infant i J oom. (Work would be commenced at an early date and was to be completed to the satisfaction of the com- ’ •rnittee. The headmaster advised that two permanent teachers had left the staff. Miss Gwilliam was taking up a position at Tie Aroha and (Mr R. Cleary had accepted an appointment at Waihi. Both were promotions, but the departures were regretted by both, teachers and children, for both had rendered excellent service to the Paeroa School. The chairman endorsed the headmaster’s remarks regarding both these teachers and was sure that they would carry with them the thanks and- good wishes of the committee and many Paeroa people. Clubs at the School The headmaster reported that, S 8 from the commencement of the second term, all children in Classes 3 toForm 2 would become members o® various school clubs, which would function for one hour per week. It was proposed to establish the following clubs viz. music, hobbies, First Aid, dramatic, philately, and the calf clubs. The establishment of such clubs would give every child an opportunity of proving his ability in some particular direction, and in developing an interest in some really worth-while hobby. Hot Cocoa for Children It was reported that the installation. of an electric hot-water system had been completed at the primary school. This had been made in a separate room and the children would now be able to partake of their hot drink in congenial surroundings during the winter months. It was reported that the power installation , had now been completed, ‘ and the projector would be made use of, and should prove of much value in the teaching of many subjects.
