MARAMARUA FAREWELL MR AND MRS FISHER GIFT EVENING FOR MISS FISHER A farewell evening to Mt and Mrs W. Fisher combined l with a gift evening in honour of their daughter Miss Cora Fisher, who is to be married shortly, was held in the Maramarua Hall on the evening of M ! arch 14. There was a large gathering of settlers of Maramarua and surrounding districts. ■During the early part of the evening Mr J. B. Mclnnes, in making a presentation of a cheque and a beautifully inscribed clock to Ml* and Mrs Fisher on behalf of the settlers, spoke of the feeling of regret at losing such a fine couple who had been residents of the district for years. Among the early pioneers they had helped bring Maramarua from virgin land to a prosperous farming community and were always interested in matters pertaining to the welfare of the district. Mr W. Marshall, speaking on behalf of the Hunt Club, said Mr Fisher had been a found'ation member and always a keen follower of the hounds. The efforts of Mr and Mrs Fisher hatf gone a long way in making the club a success. Institute Appreciated Mrs Searle, president of the Women’s Institute, spoke of the affection held by all for Mrs Fisher, who had been a member of since its inception in WSfi. Mrs Searle then asked Mrs Fisher to accept a gift, at the same time expressing the wishes of members, for her happiness in her new sphere. A beautiful bouquet of flowers accompanied the gift. Musical, honours were then accorded after which Mt Fisher expressed thanks for the evening and the gifts. Mrs Fisher also expressed thanks and said how happy they would be to welcome their old friends in their future home. A bountiful supper was served by the ladies. After supper Miss Cora Fisher was escorted to the stage accompanied by her fiancee, Mr B. Harris, Mrs Harris, and Mrs Fisher. Mr S. Holloway, speaking on behalf of residents asked the young couple to accept the gifts with the best of good wishes for their future health and happiness. Presentations Made Mrs .Searle on behalf of members of the institute made a presentation and wished them success and happiness in the years to Come. Mrs Jolley on behalf of the Social Club also made a presentation which carried with it the best wishes for the future. ■Mrs Jolley then asked Miss Fisher, Mrs Harris and Mrs Fisher to accept bouquets. ‘Tor They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung most heartily after which Mr Harris expressed thanks on his own and fiancee’s behalf. iWarrerfs Orchestra supplied excellent dance music and Mr D. Neil carried out the duties of M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mirs Hod'der and Mt F. Downie.

A very memorable evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem and “Auld Lang Syne.”
