—-o PLAINS WATER SUPPLY NUMBER OF BLOW OUTS REPORT BY THE SUPERVISOR “On the East Water Supply a number of blow outs have been repaired. The whole supply had 1 to be shut off during the repair to the 10in. break on the main at Puriri. The other breaks were repaired with only sections of the supply having to be turned off,* reported the Water Supply Supervisor, Mr J. Bradford, to the March meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. The report added: “'Some water is being taken from Canoe Creek and with both streams supplying, a good pressure has been maintained.

“'Four’ new water meters have been procured and a test will be taken at different points of the supply.

“Other maintenance and repairwork has been carried out. Section Concreted

The engineer, Mr E. Hazledine Barber, reported on other supply systems as under: —

“(East Water Supply:—A section of drain on the Piako road has been concreted and made safe against slips. This is where the pipe line

broke and was reported as having Aveakened the bank. The length and position of this section Avas pegged out by the Hauraki United- Drainage Board 1 foreman.

“West Water Supply:—An inspection of the West Water Supply has been made with Mr E. F; Adams to consider ways and means of supplementing this scheme with additional water. Mr Adams is reporting on this matter. Erosion at Spillway* “The downstream side of the spillway has been pumped dry and the foundations examined. On examination the erosion that had taken place was far worse than expected. The foundations were uppercut 9 inches to a depth of 2 feet and showed three distinct leaks. 8 feet from the wall the level was found to be 4 feet below the foundations and 30 feet from the wall, 5 feet below the foundations. Work was commenced immediately to repair the damage. Up to date approximately 80 c. yds. of concrete has been placed in repairing the foundations and building concrete aprons. There still remains one large apron to be constructed and some work on the sides of the reservoir wall. A 12 inch sluice valve was installed while this work was in progress. “The maximum level of the reservoir below the spillway this year to date has been 23 inches, today’s reading is lSi inches.
