ODDFELLOWS MEET

LOYAL HAURAKI LODGE MIS'SftD. GORRIE FAREfWELLED The fortnightly> meeting of the Loyal Hauraki Lodge was held in the Lodge Room, Coromandel, on Monday. January 28 when the N.G., Sister Inglis, presided over a fair attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received and. 1 the sick visitors’ report showed an improvement in the health of members. The N.G. extended a cordial welcome back to the lodge to P.G. Bro. Phil James, who has just returned from 21 years’ service overseas. P.G. Bro. James thanked the lodge for the welcome and said his thoughts had often been with them at the meetings while he was away. He had spent a fortnight’s leave in London and had had the opportunity of meeting the secretary o£ a lodge in the area where he was staying. Although unable to attend a meeting there, he was able to discuss lodge affairs with a view to telling what he learned to his own lodge at some future date. He was very pleased to be home and said it was just the same in the lodge room, some of the old faces he saw and some new ones, which was all to the good; of the lodge. The honours of the Order were then conferred on Bro. James.

Welcomes back to the lodge room were also extended to Bros. Neil Strongman and Dick Denize. An invitation was received from Loyal Thames Lodge, to attend their annual function on February 9 and after a discussion it was decided that a bus load would make the trip. The secretary was instructed to reply accordingly. Sister Dawn Gorrie resigned from the position as elective secretary owing to her leaving the district. Sister Shirley Savage was appointed for the remainder of the term of office.

The N.G. handed) Sister Gorrie a gift from the members as a token of esteem and: in remembrance of the happy times spent in the lodge room. After the lodge prayer was read, supper was served and a pleasant social time was spent in dancing and games. *
