HORSE IN POUND

CHARGED WITH RESCUING

CASE HEARD IN PAEROA INCIDENT IN THE BOROUGH Charged under the Impounding Act. 19018, with rescuing a bay gelding from the Paeroa Pound, liarry Paxton Wylde was convicted and fined 10s by Messrs T. Gregson and B. Gwilliam Smt, J’sJP., in the Paeroa Court on Monday.

Constable J. L. Brown stated that on January 5 the Paeroa poundkeeper had impounded a bay gelding, the property of H. Wylde. The hoi’se had got loose from a rope to which it was tethered in the school paddock. Wylde had later found the horse in the pound but could not find the poundkeeper. He went back later to the pound but still there was no sign of the poundkeeper. Wylde then released the horse. The horse was well known to the poundkeeper and Wylde intended to pay the fees when he saw the poundkeeper. It was not a serious offence but had been brought to warn people that stock must not be taken from the pound without authority. Harry Wylde who pleaded guilty said the horse had been impounded previously and he had secured the horse from the pound and as he had had no' money in his pocket he had paid the fees to the poundkeeper down the street later. On one occasion when he had called to take his horse from the pound he had helped the poundkeeper for an hour to get a horse up which was l cast. He had then taken his horse away and there had been no question of fees. On the occasion in question he had taken the horse from the pound after looking twice for the poundkeeper as there was no feed in the pound and he did not want to leave the horse all night without a feed.

Wylde was fined 10s with costs 10s and was warned by the Bench that he must not touch stock in the , pound without authority from the poundkeeper.
