SLIGHT EARTHQUAKE

SHAKE FELT IN PAEROA INCIDENT TUESDAY MORNING A slight earthquake was felt in Paeroa shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, it being described by those who noticed it as a tremor rather than a jolt or sway. Staff at the Public Works Department felt the shake quite distinctly, a heavy plan cabinet rattling as a result of the movement. The shake, it was thought, lasted approximately 15 seconds. One of the staff who was writing at the time said that his d’esk shook too much for him to continue. ‘The shake was felt in all parts of the town and residents report that wall ornaments and pictures rattled while electric lights were set swinging and windows rattled. One member of a Paeroa office staff was telephoning when the shake occurred and she reported that the nearby wall distinctly swayed.
