ELECTRIC POWER
NO IMMEDIATE EXTENSION REPLY FROM POWER BOARD A reply to its representations advocating the extension of electric power supply to Te Mata, Thames Coast, was received from the Thames Valley Electric Power Board by the Thames County Council at its meeting. "With reference to your point as to supplying current for a new quarry, I would like to point oue that the conditions of supply to this quarry are that they take supply from our existing lines, which do not entail any capital expenditure whatever, and, in addition, no use of manpower,” said the letter. “Whereas, apart from the extensions to Te Mata, this is, at the present time, deficient in revenue and is not an economical proposition, apart from the shortage of electricity. “Supply to areas such as these is being provided for by legislation which is now being brought forward by the Government, so that settlers will not be penalised in having to meet a heavy guarantee. “Furthermore, the regulations in force at the present time prohibit the board from giving supply to units which are already self-contained.” Councillors agreead • that there was some prospect of this work being done, and decided to keep the matter before the Power Board from time to time.
