VALUABLE BROOD MARE LOSS TO NGATEA OWNER Winner of £7015 in stakes during her racing career, when she had 17 successes, including the A.R.C. Great Northern Derby, Oaks, Guineas and Railway Handicap, in which she established a race record of 1.11 3-5, the brood mare Gay Blonde, who was 14 years old, broke a leg and had to be destroyed after losing her foal by Foxbridge three days ago. Her death is a severe loss to her owner, Mt G. Courtney, of Ngatea. Gay Blonde, who also won the A.J.C. Craven (Plate, and the V.R.C. MacKinnon Stakes, was a sister to Gay Shiek, and to Gay Sheila, a Great Northern and Avondale Guineas winner. She was also a half-sister to Philcourt, Marie’s Acre, 'Lady Fox and Madam Ruth, dam of the Alison Cup winner, Golden Sheila. The dam l of Gay Blonde was the Romeo mare Lady Marie, who never raced 1 , but was a sister to Sargon.
