WEDDING BELLS

GIBBONS—LENNAN

CEREMONY at THAMES

The marriage was solemnised' on August 118l l 8 at St George’s Anglican ■Church, Thames, between Dorothy Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Lennan of Waitakaruru, and Ernest McDuff, second son. of Mr and the late Mrs E. L. Gibbons of. Hamilton late of Kopu, Thames. Both had served with the R.N.Z.A.F. the bride having the rank of W.A.L. as a nurse, and the groom recently returned from the Pacific where he had served for four years. The Rev. K.K. R. Sinall officiated.

The bridal retinue made a beautiful picture as it approached the altar with Mr Lennan escorting his daughter. She chose all white, her gown being of georgette, lace yoke, and a skirt which was full at the front and back, this falling into- a train. The leg-of-mutton sleeves tapered to points over the hands. A long tulle veil was gathered high on to the head and held in place by a top-knot of white hyacinths and stock. Her bouquet was composed of white hyacinths, stock, tubor roses and maidenhair fern. A string of pearls, which was the gift of the groom, made a pleasing (finish.

Miss Barbara Mann of Auckland and Miss Lorna Martin of Dunedin, friends of the bride, who are -also serving with the W.A.A.F. supported her, and looked charming in their dainty gowns of primrose georgette over taffeta. With this the headdresses of lovely shaaea of violet blue irises made an attractive finish. Their bouquets were of the same irises with centres of violets.

Mr R. L. Lennan acted as best man and Mr J. H. Lennan as groomsman, with Messrs H. Billings of Waitakaruru, and A. Collins of Hamilton as ushers.

A reception was held in the Hall where Mrs 'Lennan, assisted by Mrs F. Gibbons of Kopu, grandmother of the groom, received the guests. (Mes Lennan wore a model frock of navy crepe-de-chine, navy coat and hat with a shoulder spray of cyclamen. Mrs Gibbons was attired in a black satin-backed crepe ensemble, with broiderie anglaise on the sleeves, black hat and a spray of green orchids.

The wedding cake which was three-tiered, was cut by the bride.. The Rev. Small after wishing the happy couple all good wishes for the future read many telegrams and cables, the latter from friends in Gt. Britain and Italy.

The bride travelled in an ensemble of light powder blue woollen material flecked with angora, a tobacco-brown felt hat and accessories. The honeymoon was spent touring the North Island.
