AWAITI DRAINAGE

PROPOSED PUMPING SCHEME OPINION OF THE SETTLERS There was a short discussion at the September meeting of the Thames Valley Drainage Board on the subject of the proposed pumping scheme for part of the Awaiti drainage area, Mr A. H. Hayes stating that the settlers were in favour of instituting a small scheme of their own rather than the larger one envisaged by the Lands Department. The clerk, Mr iH. Rowbotham, pointed out that £2OOO had been provided on this year’s Government estimates as subsidy for a larger scheme. The matter was left for further discussion with the Lands Department and the interested settlers.
