CHURCH JUBILEE

OLD PEOPLE ENTERTAINED

ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON A further stage in St. Paul’s Anglican Church Golden Jubilee celebrations took place on Thursday when members of the Ladies’ Guild and Mothers’ Union entertained some of the older residents and workers of the church. An excellent programme was arrangedl, the artists being Mesdames ,W. Aston, Andrews, M. Thomas and J. IL. Brown, also the Misses R. Gwilliam, Tilsley and Fennell. iMrs l IG. Denton, daughter of the .first church warden, Mi- F. Cock 1 , cut the second tier of the jubilee cake which was distributed amongst those present. The presentation of boquets to Mesdames Denton, Andrews and James by ,Mrs /W. G. H. 'Weadon, concluded a very happy afternoon. DANCE IN EVENING . ENJOYABLE FUNCTION A very enjoyable dance took place in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening, organised by the Anglican young people for their friends. W.O. D. Southwick acted as M.'C. The music was supplied by the Melody Makers’ Orchestra and supper was provided by the Ladies’ Guild. The young people are looking forward to another such evening. FUN FOR CHILDREN FANCY DRESS FUNCTION The last of the jubilee celebrations, a children’s plain and' fancy dress entertainment, was held in the Parish Hall on (Saturday when the hall was crowded' with children and their parents. An excellent programme was drawn up, the artists being all children, R. and J. Gwilliam, recitations; G. Finch, song; M. Kennedy, mandolin; E. Tilsley and C. Fennell, dance; Mrs Scott and 'Mrs Brown, piano. Games of all descriptions were indulged' together with a grand march. Some of the fancy dresses were very

original and 5 the majority of mothers must have spent hours in making them up. All kinds of refreshments and afternoon tea was provided by the guild to whom the children gave three hearty cheers. Thus concluded a very happy but full week of entertainment.
