PRESENTATION MADE

MR AND MRS J. E. GREEN

RESPECT OF TURUA RESIDENTS

Mr and Mrs J. E. Green, who have resided' in Turua for 32 years, and who have been very actively identified with the progress of the town and district, recently left to reside in Kawakawa. In deference to their wishes a public farewell was not accorded them. However, they were not allowed to leave Turua without some expression of appreciation of their worth and of the general regret felt at their departure. They were presented with a substantial cheque and the letter which accompanied it read as follows: —

“To Mr and Mrs J. E. Green: On the eve of your departure from Turua, the residents of the district wish to pay you a very hearty tribute of appreciation of the services you have rendered and the many qualities of true citizenship displayed by you during your sojourn here. Acts of Kindness “Some of your acts of kindness and help are known to us; many of your good deeds- are known only to those to whom they were performed. “During your stay in Turua, you have taken a very active part in anything relating to the good of the community and of your fellow men.” “In your public life you have also been associated with- many organisations dealing with the residents and we know that your services in this respect have been of -the- highest order.

“On behalf of the residents of the whole district, we wduld' like you to accept the enclosed cheque- so that you may purchase something that will associate it with memories of /the Turua people. Deep Sense of Loss

“We wish you health and happiness in your new home at Kawakawa and' we can assure you that you leave us with a deep sense of our loss and with very real memories of your sterling qualities and kindliness. —Yours sincerely, (Signed)' P. J. Murphy, J. C. Miller Jnr., C. D. Robertson, W. J. Bell, A. iC. .Scott, A. J. ißadich, J. F. and Mrs, Kerlby, for the residents of Turua and district.”

The following letter was received from Mr and Mrs iGreen in reply:— '“To the residents of Turua and district: On behalf of Mrs Green and myself I wish to tender to you our

sincere thanks for the memorandum presented to us on our departure from Turua, together with the cheque for the substantial amount accompanying same as a presentation to us. Feelings of Regard “The sentiments expressed to us by you in your memorandum are very deeply appreciated by us both and we would like you to pass on to all those associated with you in this' presentation our genuine feelings in this regard. “We have both, during our long stay in Turua, endeavoured to be of service to the community in any way that lay in our power and did this not only in a business sense but also with the feeling of wanting to Ibe of any help or assistance to those who thought that we could or might be be able to assist in any way. To put it another way, we have honestly tried to do unto others as we would 1 have liked them to do unto us. Residents Thanked

“Needless to say, we both feel very much the break we have made ini leaving Turua, our long residence there having very many deep and sentimental associations and incidents during that long period.

“Please assure all those who so generously subscribed to the presentation that it is our intention in the near future to purchase something for our new home which we will always be able to treasure as a memento from the residents of Turua.”
