THREE GOOD PLAYS

FUNCTION AT WHENUAKITE

VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENING

A very large crowd attended the Whenuakite Hall for the presentation of three plays by the local drama club. Miss G. Bruce was l organiser.

The plays were acted at intervals

between the dances and great credit is due to each player. Enthusiastic applause greeted each performance. Those taking part were:— “The Magic Acorn”.—Wood Cutter, Mr W. Hamilton; His Wife, Mrs G. Bruce; Stranger, Mr A. Donovan. “Queen Catherine . iParr”.—King Henry VIII., Mr J. Hamilton; Queen, Miss Z. Hamilton; Page Boy, Miss J. Harsant.

“Mr Porter’s Day Off”. —Mr Porter, Mr A. Donovan; Miss Elkington, Miss V. Hamilton; Office Staff, Mrs E. Watt, Miss 'C. Hamilton and Mr R. Lynch. Misses Viola and Cynthia Hamilton danced the hula and were loudly applauded. “Out Of The Bluegums,” and ‘•There’s- A Bridle Hanging On The Wall,” were sung by Mr F. Harsant.

The Whenuakite Band made its first official appearance and .played the first dance. The band comprises:— Pianist, Mrs E. Watt; drummer, Mr R. Bruce; guitar, Mr F. Harsant. Mrs Rose played popular tunes on her piano accordian. Mr Shaw, a marvellous pianist, also assisted. Extras were played by Messrs B. Beach. R. Wigmore and B. Wharepapa. Mr Hodge and Miss Bronlund won the Monte Carlo.

An excellent supper was’ served by the. ladies.

Mr K. Hamilton was a .popular M.C. and the dance was a jolly one.
