POST-WAR WORK

development question

PLANNING FOR FUTURE

REGIONAL REPRESENTATION

Post-war reconstruction and development questions were featured in a letter received by the Ohinemuri County Council, at its December meeting, from Mr J. S. Hunter, Director of the Organisation for National Development, Wellington.

The letter referred to the desirability of every section of the community being linked up with the efforts to secure a satisfactory solution of postwar problems, and, to this end, the need for regional representation' was emphasised. With this purpose in view it was stated it was proposed to request the mayors of the -principal municipalities in each region to convene a conference early in the New Year of representatives' of all local bodies, and other interests within the region, to set up a regional planning council for the combined districts they represented’.

The Ohinemuri County Council was asked to nominate a representative who would hold himself ready to attend su'ch a conference in the 'Ohinemuri region.

Cr. C. Christensen said he would like to nominate two representatives if that were in order —the chairman and Cr. S. H. Thompson.

The chairman, Cr. T. A. Barrett, said they were only asked to name one nominee, and he thought if Cr. Thompson would accept nomination he would be the right man for the position. Cr. Thompson: Well, I have the time, if the council thinks I have the necessary knowledge. Cr. Christensen: I have pleasure in proposing that Cr. Thompson be our nominee. Cr. F. Thorp seconding, the motion was unanimously carried. PLAINS DECISION COUNCIL’S REPRESENTATIVE When the above letter was discussed at the December meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council it was decided to nominate the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, to represent the council at the regional conference.
