NGATEA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE GARDENING COMPETITIONS Miss Paul presided over a good attendance of members in spite of the inclement weather, at the December meeting of the Ngatea 'Women’s Institute. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song and the reading of the Institute prayer. Routine business and correspondence was d-ea'l-t with. It was decided to enter for the competition table at the April council meeting and also to compete in the drama festival.
Mrs Barriball gave a very interesting report on the biennial meeting of the Auckland District Federation of Women’s Institutes. The social half-hour was devoted to comipetitions and- games which were thoroughly^enjoyed by all.
Members then adjourned to the supper room -where the tables were decorated' to commemorate the festive season. After a delicious afternoon tea the beautiful- cake made- by Mrs Paul was cut by Mrs Barriball. The hostesses were Mesdames H. and D*. Waite and W. Williams.
Mrs Shaw, the oldest member, was presented with a bouquet. The winners of the gardening circle’s competitions were:— -Best bloom. —Mrs Phelps 1, Mrs Irwin 2.
Best three blooms. —Miss Irwin 1, Mrs Thomas 2. Best lettuce.—Miss Irwin 1.
