SUPPLY OF TIMBER
FARMS USE RECOMMENDATION ESSENTIALITY OF ORDER District Production Councils will in future make recommendations about the supply of timber for farm purposes. Details about this were received last week -by the Thames District Council of Primary Production, which recently made a recommends tign about this matter.
“Some time ago the Timber Controller approached the National Council of Primary Production with the view of securing the services of district councils in approving farmers’ requirements of timber/’ said the advicp from the National Council.
“The National Council was agreeable to this policy but desired to have a full understanding of the policy regarding the making of supplies available to farmers. This has now been clarified, and the following extract from the Timber Controller is quoted for your information:—
‘The timber that can Ibe supplied to farmers must be restricted to the quantities necessary to maintain production, and no authority should be given for the release of timber not required for immediate use on essential work.
“When the district councils are satisfied with the essentiality of any order for timber and have issued a certificate or supporting letter, the order will be given equal priority with the most essential undertakings. This means that the timber should be made available from stocks or, if not immediately available, from the first supplies to arrive in the yards.”
