meeting on domain FIXTURE ON SATURDAY keen racing WITNESSED Although the track was heavy after the recent rain and apart from a ligh shower shortly after the P rog f aml ?® opened, the afternoon was fine, 101-the open sports meeting held by the P Z Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on the Paeroa Domam on Saturday. A good attendance public was present and were, trea e, to an excellent afternoons sport Du to the efficient organisation lard down hy the manager, Mr C. C. Webb and the secretary, Mr F. Sharp combrned with a capable team of officials, the whole programme was run o time without a hitch and there was not a dull moment for the spectators. The Paeroa Municipal Band was in attendance and played selections throughout the afternoon. At approximately 3 p.m. the grand parade was held in which athletes from the various centres took >pait. After the parade had been drawn up in front of the grandstand the president of the club, Mr C. C. Welbb, extended to the visiting athletes a warm welcome to Paeroa. 'He. also thanked the Paeroa Borough Council for putting the grounds in order for the day, the track superintendent, Mr F. Craig and all committeemen and athletes who had assisted to. make the afternoon a success. He also announced having received a telegram from Mr R. A. Mace, of Masterton, the first president of the club -,who wished the club a successful meeting. Mr H. Sommers, president of the Waikato Sub-Centre, in his few remarks emphasised that the aim o the sub-centre was to provide clean, healthy sport to keep the young men and women of the community fit and well.’ He congratulated the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club for putting on an open meeting so early in the season. Mr Edwin Edwards, patron of the Paeroa Club, then addressed the gathering. He extended a welcome to ail visiting athletes and expressed pleasure that athletics had been carried on in Paeroa in spite of the difficulties which existed to-day. He thanked the committee for the wonderful work it was rendering to Paeroa and wished the club every success.
