COROMANDEL NEWS

TOWN PLANNING VISIT OF MR MAWSON COROMANDEL, WHITIANGA POSSIBILITIES OF DISTRICT ’ At the November meeting of the Coromandel County Council the county chairman, Mr Ernest Deeble, stated that he had that week had the pleasure of meeting Mi' Mawson, town planning officer in company with Crs. A. Watkins' and T. E. Simpson at Whitinaga. He had been greatly taken by the homely approach of Mr Mawson o nmatters concerning the future development of the district and the help • ful manner in which he had come along on this his explanatory visit which would help him and the council in obtaining the necessary authority from the 'Government to have applied the principles of town planning.

Mr Mawson had stated he was struck with the possibilities of the

district and' would be coming back again to make further enquiries.

Mr Deeble intimated that the Tow; Planning Department would prepare the necessary data for the scheme, which would be carried out at actua. cost only to the council.

Resolutions were then proposed as under which define the areas to be included in the schemes as being the same areas recently adopted by the council in respect of building by-laws. It was provided by Cr. E. 'Deeble and seconded iby Cr. A. Watkins “That the boundaries of the area be included in the extra-urban planning scheme for Whitianga under the provisions of section 26 of the Town (Planning Act be as defined in 'New Zealand Gazette, July 28, 1944, which describes the area drawn up by the Survey De-

partment for purpose of Building By Laws.”—Carried.

Proposed by Cr. E. Deeble, seconded by Cr. A. J. Notman, “That this council, in the public interest, approach the 'Government to have the provisions of Section 26 of the Towe Planning Act, as far as they refer to extra urban planning applied' to the township area of Coromandel, more particularly described' and defined in New Zealand Gazette of July i2'B, 1944, which describes the area drawn up by Survey Department for purpose of Building By-laws.”—Carried.
