INCIDENT NEAR TURUA MEN CAUGHT WITH BEER function held labour day Charged at Monday’s sitting of the Paeroa Court with being in possession of liquor near a dance hall, George Fraser and Edward George Bourne were each fined £2i 10s with court costs 13s 9d by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M. Constable R. W. Beasley of Kerepeehi stated that on the night of October 23, Labour Day, he had visited Turua where a dance was being held. At about 11 p.m., he had found the two in. a car near the hall and Bourne had a glass of beer on the floor of the car while Fraser had a bottle of beer. Both admitted the liquor was theirs. No other liquor was found in the car.

Patrick Goonan was also charged with being in possession of liquorwhile a dance was in progress at Turua on Labour 'Day night. Constable Beasley stated that at 10.15 p.m. he had seen accused standing alongside a car. He had found no liquor in the car but five bottles of beer were found in the grass nearby. iGoonan at first denied knowledge of the beer but later admitted they were his.

Magistrate: He had five bottles planted. That will cost him £5, costs 15s I'Od.
