BLEDISLOE’S MIGRATION PLAN
REQUEST TO THAMES RESIDENT
In collection with a scheme for aid ing settlers. Lord Bledisloe, a former Governor-General of New Zealand, is seeking the names of persons who canie to New Zealand from Gloucestershire or who are descended from residents of that county.
Having been advised of her address by her brother-in-law, Mr Joseph Baxter, a former resident of Gloucestershire, Lord Bledisloe has written to Mrs J. W. Baxter, of Thames. “If you happen to know of any other settlers in New Zealand who, or their forefathers, have come out from Gloucestershire, I shall be glad to know their names, as I have a little emigrant. scheme I should like their help with,” he says.
His scheme, it was announced some months ago, was the setting up of a war memorial fund to assist soldiers and their descendants of the parishes of Lydney, where Lord Bledisloe live< and Aylburton, Gloucestershire, who desire to migrate to New Zealand. Men who have served in this or the last war, and who have not sufficient. means to pay the full cost of transport and meet initial expenses here, will be helped.
