FENNELL APPEARING

NOXIOUS WEEDS ON PLAINS SOME AT KOPU AND TURUA Fennell, a noxious weed on the Hauraki Plains, was reported by Mr A. H. Sutton, at the April meeting of the Hauraki Plains' County Council to be growing on the Plain® side of the Kopu bridge. He asked the noxious weeds inspector to investigate the matter. The inspector said that fennell was also growing in the Turua township. He promised to look into the matter. The inspector reported on the past month as under:— “I made a further inspection of the council’s property at Puriri and found very little flowering ragwort. “A small supply of sodium has come to hand and this will certainly be used to its best advantage on ragwort. “I had a badly infested piece of native property cleared of ragwort and sent out two final notices for blackberry.” The county clerk, Mr E. A. Mahoney reported that a grant had been approved for clearing on waste lands and he was awaiting a visit from the local officer of the Agricultural Department before instructing Mr Williams to commence.

"We have received a ton of sodium chlorate and a further ton is on the road here. This is being retailed at 7d per lb,” added the report.
