A QUEER DONKEY
AT STRANGE ASSORTMENT
ADOPTED BY SERVICEMEN Minnie the Moke is a donkey. She came around a military camp in Northern Australia and she was adopted as a mascot. As a donkey, Minnie did not rate very highly, but as a mascot she had her points. She was a gastronomic wonder, and within her almost boundless limits she kept, the camp as clean as a new pin. She loved a nice glowing cigarette butt: she liked dead matches but, preferred lighted ones. But now something is wrong with her. Her owners have an uneasy suspicion that Minnie has had at last overrated her powers of absorption, for among her daily meals she ate newspapers and plugs of tobacco.
