PAEROA RUGBY UNION CONCERT HELD IN THEATRE VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of October 18, 1903.) The Criterion Theatre con tained a fair audience last evening on the occasion of the concert held under the auspices of the Paeroa Rugby Union. The •x items were well rendered, and encores were numerous. .Mr R. E. Crombie rendered items in each half of the programme. Possibly his -best solo was “Come Back To Erin.” Miss Hubbard was applauded for her solo “On The Banks Of The Wabash” and also took part in a duet with Mr F. Griffiths. .Mr J. McLean gave several descriptive songs, and the applause that greeted him was prolonged and hearty. Items were rendered by the Paeroa Mandolin, Banjo and 'Guitar Club, and were much appreciated, especially the selection “Good-bye Dolly Gray.” To our mind the best item of the evening w'as the duet “Larboard Watch,” in which Messrs Griffin and Reid took part. Mr W. Woodward gave a number of descriptive * and comic songs, and was particularly successful in the comic items, receiving a double encore in the second part. Other good items were the solos by Miss Bramley, “Yesterday”, and Miss A. Cock “The Swallows.” Mr F. Griffiths was accorded an encore for his splendid rendition of “The King’s Own,” but contented himself with bowing his acknowledgment of the applause. Several gramophone selections were given by Master Menzies, and these were all good items. The accompaniments were played by Miss Ivy Vuglar, Miss A. Coote, Mr Harston and Mr R. McGregor. The last-named also played the overture in the second part of the programme.
