At the Empire Central Flying School (a development of the famous Central Flying School where advanced flying technique has been studied for over 30 years), senior U.K., British Commonwealth, U.S.A., and Allied instructors pool their knowledge and study the latest flying developments. They examine every angle of training and operational flying, making five classes of flight; instructional, on standard training ’planes; service, in operational ’planes; research, on training planes, examination, studying and work of flying schools, and finally handling,” testing the qualities of the latest operational aircraft. Officers of the E.C.'F.S., studying how air flows past an aircraft in flight. The model aircraft,, mounted in front of a wind tunnel, can 'be tilted to various flight attitudes. The air flow over the wings is demonstrated by the behaviour of tufts of wool on their upper surfaces. The wingtip air vortices are shown by the spinning of the small windmill held by the Australian Wing Commander.
