FANCY DRESS BALL

EVENING FOR CHILDREN FUNCTION HELD AT TURUA ITEMS GIVEN BY SCHOOL PUPILS On Friday night, July 30, the Turua Hall was filled to capacity with children and their parents. The evening which had been organised by the Turua School Committee and teaching staff began with the grand march by the children whose costumes were very striking. During the evening items were given by G. Scott and G. Clark, “Old Virginny”; J. Scott, “The Church in the Wildwood”; G. Clark and T. Crooke, “Oh Blessed Night”; T. Crooke, “Robinhood’s Wedding”; D. Radish, “The Merry Peasant”; R. Moore, G. Scott, 0. Radish, M. Abraham, C. Hicks' and J. Scott, “Whispering Hope”; P. Crooke and R. Moore, “Swing Loww”; K. Handley, A. Mules and C. Green, “Johnny’s so Long At The Fair”; “The Eskimo,” by all the boys and girls’; marching ■by primers; Play, “Rip Van Winkle,” by D. Glasgow, M. Jamieson, M. Kellow, 0. Green, M. McMillan, D. Green, N. Veddar, B. Millington, R. Green, C. Murphy, a play, “Lost Fairy,” by E. Bennett, I. Clark, S. Green, Joyce Madgwick, D. Laverick, J. Olson, L. Marshall, P. Crooke, Hazel Tapp, C. Hicks, M. Mr G. (Horie) Gray gave an exhibition of tap dancing and rendered two songs which were loudly applauded. Master B. Fox was M.C. for the children’s section of the programme and Mr J. Pye for the adults. The headmaster, Mr Strong, with the assistance of three teachers, Miss Syyerston, Miss McCarthy and Miss Morgan, helped the children with the grand march and items,'

Music which was much appreciated was played by the local orchestra, Mrs T. Clark, Mr A. Whitehead, Mr A. Henwood and Mr Dean.
