ELEPHANTS IN DARK

“ILLUMINATION” BY-LAW Recently the popular Chessington Circus paid a visit to London and gave shows in the very heart of the West End. The nightly passage of the elephants to and from the circus has brought into existence a somewhat unexpected new London by-law, i.e., that elephants must be illuminated in built-up areas. Encounters with unilluminated elephants in the blackout were apparently beginning to leave their mark on the nerves of the blitz-hardened citizens.
