CATTLE ON ROAD
NUISANCE DOWN COAST CLAIM BY NGATEA MAN DENIED BY COUNTY RANGER At the April meeting of the Thames County Council. Mr C. N. O’Neill, solicitor, of Paeroa, wrote stating that Mr A. Douglas, of Ngatea, had instructed him to complain of straying stock on the Coast road between Tapu and Kereta. The letter said that the beasts were on the road day and night, and were a constant danger to motor drivers. The letter asserted that the cattle belong to Mr E. J. McLoughlin, a member of the council, or his son. The county clerk said that the poundkeeper had been instructed to take up the matter. The poundkeeper wrote stating he visited the area on a Wednesday and on the following Friday, and saw no sign of cattle on the road.
“We are paying the poundkeeper,” said Mr Courtney, “therefore we must abide by his statement.” The meeting resolved to write the solicitor advising that the council had decided to take no action.
