NGATEA INSTITUTE ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON X GARDEN CIRCLE COMPETITION "Miss A. ‘Paul presided over a large attendance of members and friends at the April meeting of the Ngatea Women’s Institute. The meeting opened, with the singing of the Institute Song, after which the president read the Institute Prayer.
Miss Paul was elected delegate to the council meeting to be held in May.
Before commencing the social halfhour Miss Paul welcomed the visitors and also a new member. The following contributed to the programme: —Mrs Wallace, of Waitakaruru, secretary of A.D.F.W.1., gave a very interesting talk; Mrs K. Fox, two Mrs L. Schmidt, two recitations; Miss Marceau, pianoforte solo. All these artists were from Turua. Two very enjoyable duets by the Misses Jesen, of Waitakaruru, followed. The entertainers were all presented with beautiful shoulder sprays, which had been made by Mrs R. B. Paul and Miss Irwin.
Competitions were won by Mrs E. J. Thomas and Mrs Mold. The winners of the gardening circle’s competitions ( were:— Best bloom: Mrs Paul, 1; Mrs Ir-
win, 2. Tin of Berries: Miss Paul, 1; Mrs Paul,. 2. Best Onion: Mrs M. Grbich, 1; Miss Paul, 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames S. Phelps, M. •Grbich and J. Lee.
