PRIMARY PRODUCTION
THAMES COUNCIL MEETS REPORT FROM THE SECRETARY The following rbport of the February meeting of the Thames District Council of Primary Production has , been supplied by the secretary, Mr J. E. Green.
The report reads as under: — “The council received and . dealt with 14 appeals for reservists drawn in the last ballot and four appeals of reservists for temporary release from camp for urgent farm work. “Mr R. W. Chappell, District Manpower Officer, explained the work of the National Transport Committee, and what had so far been done by the committee for the co-ordination of transport so far as it affected primary producers in particular ■ “The chairman, Mr S. E. Hall, and* secretary reported to the meeting fully on the conference held in Auck-
land with the Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister in charge of Production. , Councils, and the matters rising out of the discussions which district councils were asked to give their opinion upon to the National Council, Wellington.. “The secretary reported that for the month of January 16 appeals had been received and dealt with and that the council had been fairly successful in getting reservists released from camp for brief periods to help - with urgent seasonal work on farms. The council had also given information to reservists on their pending appeals and the information available as to the release of Grade 2 and 3 men from camp to take the place of Grade 1 single men on farms who would shortly be called upon to enter camp.”
