CAMPAIGN OF HATE
“CURSE ENGLAND” BADGES GIVEN TO ITALIAN CHILDREN Italian children have been asked to wear “God Curse England.” badges, states a report received by the Manchester Guardian. ' ~ This is part of a campaign of hate against the Allies to counter growing unrest in Italy. But the badges are not popular, because they are suspected to be of German origin. The Fascists hoped R.A.F. raids on Italy would help the hate-Britain propaganda, but in many areas, particularly among the peasants, renewed demands for peace have followed, the report says. During the raid on Turin fumes from smoke-screen canisters entered a tunnel-shelter, suffocated hundreds of people. Peasants hoarding food show great ingenuity in hiding their harvest in disused wells, mountain caves, and ■empty burial vaults. These hiding places are usually discovered only as a result of peasant quarrels, when one man denounces another to the authorities.
