SEASON OPENED
ALLEY MEMORIAL PARK BOWLING, CROQUET, TENNIS ENJOYABLE DAY AT HIKUTAIA A beautifully fine afternoon marked the opening of the combined sports clubs of the Alley Memorial Park, Hikutaia, on Saturday last. The courts and greens were in good order and the park surroundings were, as usual, most attractive. There was a large number of members and visitors present, particularly visiting bowlers, rinks having travelled from Waihi, Paeroa, Patamahoe, Te Aroha and Thames.
An excellent afternoon tea was served to all by the lady members of the park,- while bowling, croquet and tennis were carried on until a late hour, all present voting that it 'had been a splendid afternoon’s (Sport. The official opening of the various clubs took place at 2 p.m., Mr Geo. Avery, president of both the Park and. Hikutaia Bowling Club, performing the ceremony. In doing so, Mr Avery welcomed all visitors and members, saying how pleased he was to see them all gathered there on such a fine day and hoped they would all enjoy themselves to the full. Mr Avery then declared the bowling green officially open for the coming season and called upon Mrs Avery to play the first bowl. He then declared the courts open and ' Mrs Morrison played the first ball. Mr Avery then opened the ladies’ croquet lawn and apologised for the absence of the president, Mrs W. K. Morrison. Mr Avery wished the members every success for the coming season and a good day’s sport. He then asked the vice-president of the club, Mrs A. Duncan, to play the first ball.
