Still Going Strong
“How old are you?” was a question put by Mr S. L. Wright to an appellant representing a country auxiliary fire service who supported an appeal for an auxiliary fireman at a sitting of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Christchurch. “I am 69,” replied the appellant, to which Mr Wright said: “Sixty-nine, and still fighting fires.” “Yes,” said the appellant, “I have been a member for 30 years, and most of the other members are over 50. It is essential for us that the young men be retained.” The appeal was adjourned sine die.
