SUCCESSFUL DANCE
FUNCTION IN COROMANDEL
TROOPERS ENTERTAINED
Primarily run in honour of a visiting Troop of Mounted Rifles, a very successful dance was organised by the W.W.S.A. in aid of their funds. There was a very good attendance and the visiting troopers appeared to be enjoying themselves throughout the evening.
Popular music was supplied by Miss C. McNeil (piano), Mrs E. M. Lucas (piano), Mr V. iPowley (violin), and Lee Perfect (drums). Extras were played by Miss Lillis and also by the Whitianga Camp Dance Band.
A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss B. Davis and Trooper Clark.
Members of the W.W.S.A. served a very welcome supper and everyone enjoyed the half-hour’s respite from dancing. Mrs Murphy, chairwoman of the W.W.S.A. committee, welcomed the visiting troopers and hoped they would all enjoy themselves, adding that she hoped when the war was over that Coromandel would have the opportunity of welcoming them once again at a similar function. Sergeant-Major Tan* replied on behalf of the “Hill Billies,” as he termed his troop of men, and gave thanks to the members of the W.W.S.A. and people of Coromandel for their warm welcome and splendid evening’s entertainment.
Mr W. Hart acted as M.C. Dancing continued till the early hours.
