VIGOROUS THAMES PROTEST SMALL SNAPPER CAUGHT Prior to attending the representative meeting of the Public Opinion Group in Auckland recently, Mr S. Ensor, of Thames, was able to procure definite evidence that seine boats were catching immature snapper and he produced fish weighing Boz, 9oz, 9-}oz, lOoz and lloz, the legal size being 12oz. .Prior to r the introduction of trawling, the legal size was 11b. Mr Ensor sent th e following telegram to Mr J. Thorn, M.P.: “For God’s sake stop this madness. Seine boats fishing inside Cape Colville line. Have to-day seen thousands of snapper under 11b.” In acknowledging receipt of the telegram, Mr Thorn said he was bringing the matter before the Minister and would advise fuUy later.
