CAUSING FLOODS

MOUTH OF HIKUTAIA STREAM ANOTHER FLOODGATE WANTED A letter was received from the Wharepoa Advisory Drainage Board Committee at the monthly meeting of the Thames County Council, requesting the council to draw the attention of the Public Works Department to the bad state of the mouth of the Hikutaia stream and suggesting that another floodgate be installed. The committee pointed out that this stream carried a great deal of water which comes from outside their drainage area. During very heavy rain the present outlet cannot deal with all the water and consequently it is forced back and along the drains, causing the lands adjacent to be flooded.

Left in the hands of the engineer and riding members to report to the council’s next meeting.
