LIGHTS AGAIN
POSITION IN TE AROHA RESTRICTIONS EASED MAIN STREET NOW WELL LIT It has been a pleasurable sensation to residents to find that the street lights have again been switched on to. an extent which makes Whitaker street, Te Aroha, at least, look vaguely reminiscent of those good old days before the war,” states the Te Aroha News
The position is now that word has been received to the effect that Te Aroha is not a coastal area and that, therefore, all street lights are to be used provided that their [power is reduced to an extent where there will be no skyglow. Provision must be made, however, for their immediate switching off in the event of an alarm.
Te Aroha is not allowed, however, to use the very powerful mercury vapour lamps which, before the war, made it one of the best lighted towns in the province. Street Lights Only The easing up in restrictions applies only to street lights, however, and all regulations in force regarding house, community and shop lights remain as at present. The . only alteration here is that lights showing approaches- to buildings may be used providing that preparation is made to switch them off in the case of an alarm.
