QUESTION OF RETENTION

SPECIAL MEETING AT WAIHI

. A special meeting of the Waihi Borough Council was held on Friday morning when the question of the retention of the Waihi Beach ’bus service during the summer season was discusesd in view of the decision of the No. 1 Licensing Authority (Mr E. J. iPhelan), particularly in respect to the cutting out of the Sunday service. There were present the /Mayor, Mr W. M. Wallnutt, the deputyMayor, Mr S. M. Hovell, and. Crs. J. G. Cornes, K. M„-Wrigley and R. J. Caundle. There were also in attendance the town clerk, Mr F. M. Murray, and the gasworks manager,. Mr F. C. Edwards. Amended Time-Table A communication from read from Messrs J. B. Beeche and H. L. Boughton, solicitors, on behalf of a client, presenting an application to be submitted to the Licensing Authority for an amended time-table. Later Mr Boughton appeared before the council and. explained the position as affecting the town and the travelling public. After discussing the matter the council decided, on the motion of the deputy-Mayor, seconded 6y Cr. Caundle, to support the application for an amended time-table, and stressing the importance of the retention .of the Sunday service.
