WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING IN COROMANDEL ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW CHILDREN TO BE ENCOURAGED * ■ The monthly meeting of the Coromandel branch of the Women’s' Division was- held in the Caledonian supper room recently. Mrs W. Evans presided over a good attendance of members. A letter was received from Miss E. iB. Orr, acting-Dominion secretary, in connection with the giving up of office by Mrs Noel Adams, Dominion president of the division. The suggestions for betterment of the division’s annual flower - show were read, the winner being Mrs J. Ecclestone.

Arrangements were discussed with regard to the show which will be held in October. It was suggested that letters be sent to school teachers regarding the show and asking for their co-operation in encouraging the school children to enter for various sections of the show.

A special prize has been, donated for the child sending in the best entry. A prize of 10s has been donated for the best variety of vegetables, also a prize for the best miniature flower garden.

It was resolved to donate £2 2s towards soldiers’ parcels. The roll call for next month will be sing, song or pay.

It was resolved to write to the Patriotic Committee asking them if they would alter the date of their Paddy’s markets as they clashed with the monthly Division meetings. It was pointed out .that Division members would be free to assist more if the effort was on another day.

Mrs (McKenzie brought a copy of the first “Herald,” dated November 13, 1863, and read an extract about Coromandel 79 years ago. This proved most interesting. The meeting closed, with the National Anthem, after which afternoon tea was served.
