RACING NEWS & NOTES
Withdrawn Evans Head, one of the stronglyfancied candidates for the Grand National Hurdles, was withdrawn for all engagements at the Grand National Meeting at 6 p.m. on Saturday. No doubt an army of antepost backers have had their fingers burnt. Problematical When Cherry Plum won the Taranaki Hunt Club Cup last August with 11.6, a bright future appeared to lie ahead. Following a spell he returned to run a fair fourth in the Egmont Steeples, and at his next start ran ‘Foxiana a close second in the Wanganui Steeples at Marton. Unfortunately, after winning the Hawke’s Bay Steeples, he stifled himself in the Awapuni Steeples at Manawatu in June and has not been impressive since. Whether his owner will now 'go through with the trip to Riccarton remains to be seen.
