HAURAKI PLAINS GROUP MEETS
AN INTERESTING AFTERNOON
The social meeting of the Hauraki Plains group of Women’s Institutes was held at Ngatea last Thursday. Mrs Neal, chairwoman of Maramarua’ Institute, presiding. The secretary, Mrs Hollaway, assisted.
There were not as many present as usual owing to the petrol restrictions.
Mrs Neal very ably welcomed, the 60 odd members present and the meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Ode, and “Comrades and Friends.”
Routine business was discussed before luncheon, this being served’ by hostesses from each institute.
The following contributed to the very enjoyable programme:—Miss P. Marceau (Turua), pianoforte solos; Mrs L. Schmidt (Turua) and Miss Audrey Dalgety (Ngatea), recitations.
A most amusing and appropriate sketch was given by three Waitakaruru members. Vocal numbers were included in the sketch.
Competitions were w’on by Mesdames Coxhead and J. Galvin. The programme concluded with an address by Captain S. Parfitt, who has recently returned from the Middle East. Both the talk and replies to various questions were not only intensely interesting but most instruct-
ive. The meeting closed after the singing of the National Anthem.
